The Chechyn's who people executed Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya's book (above) read like the characters in a Hubert Selby Jr. novel. The army, salivating and malevolent dogs. The Chechyns, bony and soot covered victims surviving on wit alone, mere steps away from the dust from which they were created.

Where Selby's characters always seemed to be 1 step away from reality, Politkovskaya's are the truth.
